What is Pilates & who benefits from it?
Pilates is an system of exercises that was founded by Joesph pilates in 1880. He devised over 600 exercises on various apparatus he invented. The equipment is designed, (as well as the mat exercises that came from those done on apparatus ) to condition the whole body, flowing into positions and movements that stimulate functional activities and thereby correct body alignment and balance.
It promotes strength, flexibility, speed agility and endurance. It helps keep musculature and bone structure in an optimal state.
Pilates is now used as a therapeutic aid by a wide range of professional sports people, dancers and all those that want develop and maintain their core, flexibility and strength. It is beneficial for those who are rehabilitation from injury and pregnant ladies as it provides a safe, effective and non impact exercise activity.
What is the difference between yoga and pilates ?
While the methods are different, pilates and yoga both develop strength, balance, flexibility, posture and good breathing technique. Both systems emphasise the connection between physical and mental health, although yoga places more emphasis on relaxation and uses meditation. Pilates is performed both on apparatus and mats, whereas classic yoga does not require any equipment. Pilates exercises are performed in a flow of movement without the static poses associated with yoga.

In the summer of 2019 Aimie completed her comprehensive teacher training through Body Arts and Science International (BASI) in Southern California. Since then she has undertaken several courses.
